Double Vision and the 44th Kings of Spun

Spun Salutations! It is from the spinning depths of his confusion that Uncle Spun announces our current Kings of Spun - JohnPlayer67, 44th Spun Majesty of the EU and abhraham_us, NA King of Spun. All Hail!

Dear reader, Uncle Spun craves your indulgence whilst he relates some of the unspun experiences he has found thrust upon his sorry self this past week. One would not step so willingly from the bounds of decorum were our gracious Queen still with us, but as I am sure you know by now things are otherwise and the sadder for it. One hopes that this is not a prelude to asking for help, but the demands of one's solemn duties are such that Pride must play second fiddle to Caution. Should you find that your time is short you may wish to scroll some way down the page to find the details of the Coronations, otherwise read on...

It seems that Uncle Spun is having some trouble with his eyes, what began as a simple blurriness of vision has developed into something altogether more unspun. One was initially tempted to place the blame for this ocular aberration on the particularly bad night's sleep following the traumatic episode of the 43rd EU coronation.

Uncle Spun awoke to find himself shivering amidst some sodden boxes in the doorway of a dark alley, or so it seemed until the mewling of a black cat which bore an uncanny resemblance to the feline partner of his Unspun Sibling merged into the unmistakable sound of his alarm clock and he awoke once more. Perhaps you too have experienced dreams in which you wake to find yourself confounded as to your circumstances, but carry on as though you had simply forgotten the past five minutes and trust that all will become clear if only you persist. But when you truly wake it is the confusion which persists, as though the cogs in your head have become misaligned by some odd sleeping posture and whir away without connection, permeating your cranium with their lonely song until they click back into place and the world resolves itself once more. So it was for Uncle Spun, save that an after image of that dark alley was left imprinted on his left eye, resulting in this blurred vision. Many a Spun Season has passed since Uncle Spun last saw the Spun Optometrist of even the Cog Cleaner, leaving him no choice but to firmly shut the defective portal and set about his cares. Were this the end of the matter Uncle Spun would not be commandeering your time with this lengthy tale.

The following evening Uncle Spun retired to bed, more weary than ever from the odd effort of having kept his left eye tightly shut all day and was almost relieved when he awoke again in a dream to find that both eyes presented a consistent vision. Great walls of stacked boxes rose to either side, leaving but one route to take in what seemed like some dimly lit warehouse. Curiosity and trepidation chased relief away as Uncle Spun rolled down the cardboard corridor before him. A left turn followed by a right brought him to a T-junction and the suspicion that this was some kind of improvised maze. He was just about to take the turn to the right when a robo came whizzing between the stacks bearing a box on its head. As quick as a brown fox he followed, trying hard to remember each turn taken until the walls suddenly gave way to a great chamber. The gloom hummed with the sound of robos pushing and pulling boxes of all sizes, busily engaged in some vast construction.

'Spun Salutations' whispered a voice from behind. Uncle Spun turned to see the black cat from the previous dream addressing him from atop the highest pile of boxes. Listen close it commanded.

The black cat then told a strange tale, indeed presented a riddle - you have a choice to make it purred. I belong neither to your brother, nor the Witch of Spun, indeed to the degree that I belong to any then my master must be Schrodinger for I am the cat of unopened boxes and I am here to present you with two. In this box is all that you have owned until now, it is full and no more may go in it and in this other box is absolutely nothing.

How very spun.

The first box looked worn and well used, the veteran of many house moves it's edges were barely straight and it's sides obscured with old labels and parcel tape as though it had served many purposes none of them entirely appropriate to it's simple form. The other was excruciatingly new, each face a bold bright colour of some impervious material. I am sorry to contradict you kind master cat, but you must be mistaken for Uncle Spun owns nothing but his duties, both boxes must surely be empty?

The black cat squinted it's emerald eyes and looked Uncle Spun up and down. So what about that Top Hat upon your head, or the name you use so frequently, hrrrrm? You own them do you not? Or should one call for the Unspun Police?

If you have never heard the laughter of cats then count yourself lucky, for Uncle Spun the only thing worse is the derision of a Queen.

'You have until the Crowning of the 50th King of Spun to decide, have a Spun day, won't you hrrrm.'

And with that Uncle Spun awoke. The confusion of the preceding day was as nothing compared to the befuddlement of this, for now the after image of the dream was not some static tracing like the retina burn of an over bright light, but an animated vista of the construction taking place in the warehouse. Since that disturbing moment Uncle Spun has found that the only way to perform his myriad duties is with the aid of an eyepatch.

It is only in Spunland that Uncle Spun is free of this double vision and so can happily still report on the Coronations with confidence, at least for now.

And so to the 44th Coronations. The EU contest began with AngelBoy, and although sam_reynolds01, electrica and distruttore3461 fought a vigorous battle for the crown, the way the contest would end was clearly marked from the first harvest when JohnPlayer67 took the regal prize and held it for the whole Spun Cycle. hotbunny4life became Harvest King on the second harvest, then Motorbike(?) took it for the briefest of periods (Uncle Spun barely had time to take down the name - apologies if not accurate) before JohnPlayer67 staked his claim again. The third harvest saw LP4MI join the fray, losing out to JohnPlayer67 who this time could not keep the crown from sam_reynolds01. LP4MI saw his chance when sam_reynolds01 dropped it with the onset of the Spun Storm and so ended the cycle in possession and was attentive enough to start the fifth cycle likewise, but JohnPlayer67 put paid to his ambitions by the next Spun Storm. Then the final harvest bloomed and JohnPlayer67 confidantly claimed the crown and with it the title of 44th EU King of Spun on 42,432 Spun Points! All Hail!

It seemed as though Spunland NA rang with echoes of the previous week; Maxx_Mega not only got the contest off to a start, but was Harvest King of all 5 cycles! dxkills16 relieved him of the crown briefly before she in turn was best by sam_reynoldsUS. ReccaWolf took up the prize as sam_reynoldsUS dropped it during the first Spun Storm to end the first cycle victorious. Both the second and third cycles saw our cast thus far battle it out, with Maxx_Mega dominating despite the addition of SoulReaver_444 and notsoevillyn. dxkills16 made a convincing play in the final cycles but none stop abhraham_us when he made his first claim of the contest in the final moments and secured his victory on a spuntatstic 69,325 Spun Points! Trully all hail, for this may be a record breaking score!

Next week, all being well (full or empty?) the 45th Coronation will take place on Tuesday the 2nd of September. Spunland EU: 9 -9.30pm BST, Spunland NA: 4-4.30pm PDT  and 7-7.30pm EDT. Until then Stay Spun!

The 43rd King of Spun and the unspun horror of the EU coronation

Spun Salutations Dear Reader. It is with a head hung low in shame that Uncle Spun must announce that we have but one King of Spun this week, please all hail tammy21218, 43rd NA Majesty of Spun! If there were an EU King of Spun it would be JohnPlayer67, but alas it was not to be. As Old Mother Spun would have it, 'tis an unspun wind that blows nobody good', and it certainly feels like an unspun wind sweeps through announcing with its bitter edge the approach of autumn. Yes, Uncle Spun is a little melancholic today, perhaps it is just the ghostly herald of an over-eager season, or the weariness brought about by so much coming and going in Spunland Mansions, the constant clamour of attention seeking plans. Then there is this unspun graffiti one keeps seeing - "when the hills have eyes the end is nigh". More likely it is the guilt from last night's aborted EU coronation and the fact that Uncle Spun has been too busy to attend to the next Spunland update quite yet...

Spunland EU was very quiet last night. How great a quest would it be to find our missing spunlings wondered Uncle Spun, perhaps they have found our Queen in some other virtual world and frolic the spun day away in dance and song. Perhaps. It was not the first time that the quietness whispered of unspun things to come. JohnPlayer67 took the crown at the start of the contest, and spuntastically enough apart from one brief Harvest King foray by GlassReaver managed to keep it for the whole 30 minutes! Ah but if spunland was so quiet this would not be an achievement I hear you protest, but it was not that quiet. Indeed JohnPlayer67, glitching as he was may well have had a rather unspun score, a phenomena which Uncle Spun will be addressing as soon as he is able. This is all besides the point however, as Uncle Spun made a catastrophic error and summoned what he hoped would be the Happy Duke of Spun only to find the call being answered by his Angry brother who in so doing ended the coronation prematurely, leaving us without an EU King. Big Spun apologies, especially to JohnPlayer67, we will not take the risk of summoning the Dukes mid-coronation ever again.

On the other side of the Great Atlantic things were busier, but still more quiet than is usual for a coronation. Maxx_Mega began what soon became a choppy, fraught contest - losing the crown not for the last time to spunlandfan2014, who in turn lost to sam_reynoldsUS. Sam droped the crown during the first spun storm and Z9065 swept it up on his skateboard LMO, the crown then changed heads rapidly back and forth between Z9065, PEPITOWISLON (as a spunling ghost) and Maxx_Mega. Z9065 may have ended the Spun Cycle but it was Maxx_Mega who sprung forth again at the advent of the next Spun Harvest, indeed Maxx_Mega was Harvest King in every cycle of the contest. boofi13 made his first regal claim on a Spuno'ween Broom Broom LMO during the second cycle, besting spunlandfan2014 to end the cycle victorious. In the third spun cycle all of our contestants slogged it out. Maxx_Mega may have lost to spunlandfan2014 shortly after the start of the final harvest, but grabbed it again when sam_reynoldsUS dropped it as the final SpunStorm started, then to cries of 'No!' from spunlandfan2014, tammy21218 swept in to steal the day with 46,015 Spun Points! All Hail!

Next week, the 44th Coronation will take place on Tuesday the 26th of August. Spunland EU: 9-9.30pm BST, Spunland NA: 4-4.30pm PDT and 7 - 7.30pm EDT. Until then, stay Spun!

Kings of Spun the 42nd

Spun Salutations Dear Reader! All hail sam_reynolds01, 42nd EU King of Spun and SoulReaver_444 42nd NA Spun Majesty!

Due to various mysterious goings on in Spunland Mansions both munki's were in the same physical location last night, and so the coronations were only run in one instance in each territory, for those of you who found yourself in another coronation-less  instance Big Spun Apologies (sorry Akina8373!). If you want to make sure to reach the coronation add the madmunki's as friends (NA: UncleSpun, SpunDeDuke, EU: madmunkid, i-munki) and 'goto' one of us just before the allotted coronation time and all spunning well we'll see you there! Big Spun thanks for the further unspun bug reports (HotChick955 & Ren_Echo) they have been added to the next Update list, although we have no date to announce for that quite yet. As to the mysterious goings on, well more on that in a future blog post, but there does seem to be a lot of noise in the basement...

Both 42nd Coronation Contests were busy and fiercely contested. In the EU JohnPlayer67 got the competition off to a start at the tail end of a Spun Storm following which jbond006hmss became the first Harvest King. MAXMALO made his first appearance by snatching the crown, followed not long after by sam_reynolds01 who took us through to the end of the first whole Spun Cycle. eXtremo2fast made her coronation debut as the second harvest King, losing out to Hennryke in spuntastically huge robo from as ever, and although she recaptured the regal prize from sam_reynolds01 it was MAXMALO who ended the second full cycle. MAXMALO took the crown once more to begin and end the third Spun Cycle, with all of the previous contenders staking a claim at some point along with richrich1991. The 4th Harvest brought the return of eXtremo2fast as Harvest King but she quickly lost out to MAXMALO. Hennryke and JohnPlayer67 both managed claims before sam_reynolds01 ended the 4th Spun Cycle. It is rare for a coronation to see 5 Spun Harvests, but such was the case on the regal battlefield last night. GlassReaver made her first foray of the contest following the final Harvest, but MAXMALO and Hennryke gave no quarter, just as none was shown to them by sam_reynolds01 as he spooked to victory on a spuntastic 51,278 Spun Points! All Hail!

In Spunland NA Kojoe6669 made their first Coronation debut by starting the contest, but Darth-Matt92 soon swept the Spun Crown away on his skateboard LMO then lost out to another new name in the form of xXur_babyXx. Maxx_Mega became the first Harvest King and although Darth-Matt92, dxkills16 and sam_reynoldsUS all managed to lay claim to the Crown he still managed to reclaim possession by the end of the first complete Spun Cycle. Maxx_Mega claimed the Crown with the spawning of the second Harvest and a heated round began with Darth-Matt92 claiming, then losing to spunlandfan2014, who lost to sam_reynoldsUS before reclaiming to then lose to Ren_Echo with Darth-Matt92 ending the cycle. Ever tenacious Maxx_Mega became Harvest King for the third time, losing it to Darth-Matt92 again, before managing to swipe it up as sam_reynoldsUS dropped it after besting Darth-Matt92. SoulReaver_444 finally announced his regal ambitions by snatching the crown at the end of the third cycle and although Ren_Echo became our final harvest King it was SoulReaver_444 who proved there can be only Spun by winning the contest on 37,815 Spun Points! All Hail!

Next week, the 43rd Coronation Contest will take place on  Tuesday the 19th of August. Spunland EU: 9 - 9.30pm BST, Spunland NA: 4 - 4.30pm PDT and 7 - 7.30pm EDT. Until then, stay Spun!

Kings of Spun the 41st & Spunland News...

Spun Salutations Dear Reader! Yesterday, one day late for reasons covered below, we crowned our 41st Kings of Spun - both with incredibly close scores and both have never been Kings of Spun before! Callooh! Callay! All Hail Hennryke, 41st EU King of Spun and tammy21218, 41st NA King of Spun! Before getting to the details there is much for Uncle Spun to relate...

To paraphrase what a famous Scottish King never actually said 'So Spun and Unspun a week I have not seen!' Yes, last wednesday the latest big Spunland update went live to launch the madmunkis into a world of spun fun and pain. It took but five minutes to run into the shop bonus crash bug and find ourselves ejected into the unspun crash void. Oh the horror. The Happy Duke of Spun was summoned regardless and made his first philanthropic foray into Spunland. The Update brought to Spunland and the Spunland Cottage a set of 6 Spunner Posters to find, as many will now know one of these posters is gifted by the Happy Duke, who has since managed to make it it into Spunland every day except Tuesday. If you are hunting for said poster be sure to look out for messages on twitter or facebook heralding The Happy Duke's arrival, I believe he intends to make another appearance today, but details will be posted later.

Uncle Spun got back to Spunland Mansions after much travelling last Friday to be greeted by the spuntastic news that sam_reynolds01 was the first to find all 6 posters and earn his illuminating reward. Not long afterwards Majesty Imhokh and King of Spun Independence the 1st abhraham_us did likewise. Uncle Spun did mention last week that we would create some certificates for those who proved their diligence by posting a picture of their prize on the Spunland facebook, and we will, it has just not been done quite yet...

It was on Tuesday night that Uncle Spun found himself once more in the bleakest pits of the unspun crash void. The first sign that all was not as it should be came with the length of time that PlayStation Home took to start, and as it did so presented screens so old that Uncle Spun began to wonder again about the reality of the Spun Time Machine. What was happening? He arrived in Spunland with not so much as a glimpse of the newsviewer or even message of the day to find things subtly unspun, but as he was almost late to begin the Contest he did not notice at first and after warning all present not to activate the Shop Bonus, left Spunland in order to rejoin. It was on his second  arrival that he saw the face of the Unpsun problem - for him Spunland was adrift in the void, nothing from his Spunland was getting to the others even though he could see and chat with all of the Spunlings present. A third attempt was made to quit and restart, and this seemingly caused some unspun catastrophe as when he returned Spunland was truly empty. Alas.

Some hours later he experienced more or less the same in Spunland NA, only this time he was better prepared and managed, thanks to phatso64, dxkills16, the homeling collective and others to get some truly spuntastic Spunland Photos which have yet to be posted. The 41st Coronation was thus delayed, and Uncle Spun must beg your forgiveness and applaud your patience.

The Update to Home yesterday fixed not only the truly Unspun issues of the day before but also brought the  the Shop Bonus back into use and some other small improvements too - special Spun thanks to Sciotoan68 for revealing the score display bug, that should also consequently be fixed, and whilst one remembers: there is a Spunland Tutorial thread on the Home US forums which many may find helpful, although much of the information is out of date some of it is impressively astute. And so to the Coronations...

There were more than a few new names in Spunland EU to complement the old ones, NarwingStar took the Spun Crown to the first Harvest where he was succeeded by Zouhair11FA, then playaboede_king before Hennryke made his contest debut in a Robo suit. sam_reynolds01 seized the crown from Hennryke then lost it to the belligerently named agianst__you who proved to be no match for the mighty MAXMALO. NarwingStar became the second Harvest King in a cycle which set the rhythm for the remainder of the contest as he, sam_reynolds01, MAXMALO and Hennryke slugged it out over the next 3 Spun Cycles. In the end Hennryke was crowned 41st Spun Majesty of the EU with a spunderfull 31,635 Spun Points!

Spunland NA also saw its fair share of new names, perhaps this is what is required to shake up the old guard and present us with fresh Kings of Spun? Either way skittles2345y got us off to a speedy start and a cycle dominated by names previously unseen to Uncle Spun; lwringer1, niteSkyy and FaLsEhOoD227 all staking their claim before the sartorially spuntastic smokingpistol took charge at the end of the first Spun Cycle. Naughty_Girl_FTW became the first Harvest King of the contest then niteskyy nipped her ambition in the bud before being bested by qtu7tool, sam_reynoldsUS swept in and after a determined tussle with niteskyy and qy7u7tool ended the second cycle with the Crown. The third harvest gave us KAM3RON-916 as it's Harvest King, with Naughty_Girl_FTW and then niteskyy losing out to the determined q7u7tool. For the final harvest FaLsEhOoD227 reappeared and although Ren_echo joined the fray with q7u7tool, sam_reynoldsUS and niteskyy it was tammy21218 saving her well timed gambit for the last minute who went on to be crowned 41st NA Majesty of Spun on a spuntastic 31,014 Spun Points! All Hail!

Next week, unspun interventions permitting the 42nd Kings of Spun will be decided on Tuesday the 12th of August, Spunland EU: 9 - 9.30pm BST and Spunland NA: 4 - 4.30pm PDT/ 7 - 7.30pm EDT. Until then, Stay Spun!
